Cosmelan® Depigmentation Treatment

The Cosmelan Mask is a depigmentation treatment that reduces the appearance of skin discoloration brought on by hormonal imbalance, photo(sun) damage and post inflammatory hyperpigmentation in all skin types. Cosmelan works by blocking the body’s biological process that causes skin discoloration. Active ingredients lighten existing discoloration while inhibiting discoloration in the skin’s deeper layers from surfacing.

The Cosmelan Mask is applied by an aesthetician under the supervision of a physician and left in place for a number of hours depending on the patient’s degree of pigmentation. It is simple and safe with minimal down time and no side effects. Cosmelan should be used once a year, typically following the summer months, to depigment and rejuvenate the skin.

The treatment is relatively new in this country, having been developed in Spain, and Dr. Turk is one of the few physicians in New York to offer the treatment.

Chemical Peels

Our skin care practice also provides a variety of highly effective medical-grade chemical peels to treat fine lines, wrinkles, discolorations, acne, and other skin imperfections. Chemical peels work by removing the damaged upper layers of skin to reveal beautiful, glowing skin underneath. Each of our office-based chemical peels is customized based on the unique skin care needs of each patient and is the first step to ongoing skin care maintenance. Multiple chemical peels may be necessary to achieve desired results.

Surface Chemical Peels

Surface chemical peels are made of glycolic acid from sugar cane and used to treat a variety of conditions associated with photoaging of the skin. These chemical peels are the lightest and are effective at improving the appearance of fine lines, abnormal pigmentation, and problem complexions as well as treating dry skin. These chemical peels also promote the production of collagen and elastin to make skin softer, smoother, and more resilient.

Medium Depth Chemical Peels

Medium depth chemical peels are made of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and are stronger than surface chemical peels. These peels can significantly improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin discolorations by removing dead skin cells. Patients are left with brighter, more radiant skin.
