As patients age, the jawline and neck regions are prone to the formation of sagging, drooping skin. Starting around the age of 40, the skin between the jaw and neck begins to sag. While the skin of the jawline was once at a taut right angle, it may now be droopy and saggy. It is also common for fat deposits to accumulate in the jawline and neck regions. Another downside to growing older is that the skin is not as vibrant or as radiant as it once was. With the loss of elastin and collagen that occurs naturally from the aging process, the skin of the face and neck may become thin and loose. The presence of jowls, a double chin, or a “turkey neck” can make a person feel and look older. At Dr. Jon Turk’s plastic surgery practice in Manhattan, neck lift surgery may be performed to address these issues and to restore firmer, more defined contours to the jawline and neck. Men and women affected by unsightly sagging skin of the lower face and neck may benefit from a jawline/neck lift (JNL).

Jawline/Neck Lift (JNL)

To help his patients achieve the toned, lifted, and defined jawlines they desire, Manhattan facial plastic surgeon Jon Turk offers the jawline/neck lift. The jawline/neck lift procedure offers similar results to those achieved through the more invasive traditional full face lift procedure. The less invasive jawline/neck lift surgery is also less time consuming than a full face lift procedure. Patients who undergo the jawline/neck lift procedure also find the healing process to be faster than that of full face lift surgery.

Many patients in their 50s and 60s are bothered by changes in the lower face and neck. Skin laxity in the neck and jowls in the lower face are common among both men and women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. Through the jawline/neck lift, Dr. Jon Turk can strategically and specifically target areas of the face most prone to the signs of aging to achieve natural, long-lasting results. With this limited lift technique, there is no need for general anesthesia. The jawline/neck lift also offers a much faster and easier recovery phase than that associated with full face lift surgery.

Fillers offer tremendous benefits and are an excellent option for patients experiencing signs of aging in the upper face. Unfortunately, fillers often fail to achieve good aesthetic outcomes when used to address signs of aging in the lower portion of the face. Non-invasive skin tightening can be beneficial for lax skin, but are of limited value at addressing fat and muscle. Once a patient is in her or his late 50s, the loss of skin elasticity will necessitate some type of lifting procedure to restore a more youthful, defined, rejuvenated facial appearance.

The jawline/neck lift surgery is performed in Dr. Turk’s outpatient surgical suite. Typically, the jawline/neck lift procedure takes two hours to perform. During the procedure, Dr. Turk addresses sagging skin along the jawline and neck, tightens the neck muscles, and removes any excess fat from the lower face. The healing time of a jawline/neck lift typically is about five to seven days. Men and women who are unhappy with the appearance of facial aging in the jawline and neck regions may benefit from the JNL procedure.
