Youthful-looking Skin

At Jon Turk, M.D. Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, we are dedicated to helping patients achieve the naturally beautiful and youthful appearance they desire. Dermal injectable treatments such as JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel, Radiesse®, Perlane®, Restylane®, and BOTOX® Cosmetic can be administered at our Manhattan or Long Island offices to reduce and eliminate fine lines, wrinkles, and other imperfections that appear as part of the natural aging process. These treatments can be performed during a patient's lunch hour, after which they can immediately return to their daily activities. BOTOX® Cosmetic

Used by ophthalmologists for more than 10 years, BOTOX® Cosmetic is available at our facility as a non-surgical wrinkle therapy that relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, reducing the appearance of frown lines, laugh lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet. Small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic may be injected into the muscle in just minutes to decrease lines and elevate the brows, providing a more youthful, relaxed look to the face.

Surpassing breast augmentation in popularity, BOTOX® Cosmetic is made of low concentrations of a toxin that blocks nerve impulses, causing the muscle into which it is injected to become temporarily paralyzed. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections produce immediate results. The procedure lasts approximately 15 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated; however, the aesthetic effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic do not last. Patients usually must come in every four to six months to receive a new BOTOX® Cosmetic injection.

Selphyl is an all natural filler that is made from the patient's own platelets. Platelets, besides being important for blood clotting, contain numerous growth factors that stimulate collagen growth, promote improved circulation and recruit stem cells. In a two step process, a small amount of blood is first drawn from the patient and spun down to separate the platelets from the other blood cells. Next, this Platelet Rich Plama or PRP as it is known, is injected like a standard filler into areas of the face that are wrinkled, hollowed out or scarred. The platelets provide a soft, subtle immediate volumizing effect while the growth factors begin to work to stimulate new collagen growth over a 6-8 week period.

Results are seen best 2-3 months following treatment and can last up to 3 years. We have found that Selphyl is particularly useful and effective around the eyes where the delicate, thin skin makes camouflaging other fillers extremely difficult. In this region the PRP helps to fill hollowness, improve skin texture and, in many cases, brighten dark circles under the eyes  We also use PRP around the mouth to help smooth out "smokers lines" and for any other shallow depressions due to scarring or skin atrophy.

Selphyl is completely safe with no possibility of allergic reactions since the "filler" comes from the patient's own cells. There is no lumpiness or irregularity as PRP is a serum and layers smoothly and softly. The patient will experience some minor stinging upon injection which lasts only a few minutes but must plan for 48 hours of swelling and minor bruising following the 20 minute procedure. Selphyl is priced similarly to other fillers and can be repeated 8 weeks following the initial injection is more volume is desired.

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid product that is designed for use in the more superficial layers of the skin or in areas of thin skin. It has been a “game changer” for the area under the eyelid known as the “tear trough” as well as the vertical lip lines often referred to (erroneously) as “smoker’s lines.” Blending the eyelid-cheek junction imparts a more youthful, less tired look to the face often masking dark circles under the eye. Belotero, due to its lighter weight, is ideal for this delicate area and often lasts up to 9 months when used for the tear trough. It is less likely to be noticeable under the thin skin of the eyelid and is also completely reversible and safe.

The vertical lines above the lip have been notoriously difficult to treat as previous fillers were too bulky or caused excess lip fullness. Dermabrasion and laser abrasion were also used but with limited success and excessive downtime and complications. Belotero is literally “threaded” into these tiny lines softening their appearance and stimulating collagen for an additive effect over time. There is no associated red lip swelling and the results last for approximately 6 months.

Formerly known as Radiance™, Radiesse® is an excellent option for filling deeper wrinkles, folds, and depressions around the mouth and nose such as marionette lines, smile lines, nasolabial folds, and more. Radiesse® is comprised of microspheres made of calcium hydroxylapatite, a naturally occurring mineral in the body. These microspheres are suspended in a gel solution that helps plump up the skin as well as promote the production of collagen. The treatment process usually takes less than a half hour and patients can enjoy softer, smoother skin immediately. Results can last up to two years.

Restylane® is also offered at our offices. Made in Sweden, Restylane® has been used since 1996 to fill out lips, facial wrinkles, and facial folds as well as to add moisture to the skin. A long-lasting clear, biodegradable gel containing hyaluronic acid, Restylane® works with your body's natural hyaluronic acid to add volume to the skin by filling in the spaces between collagen and elastin fibers. Injected into the skin to fill in designated problem areas by our experienced surgeon, Jon Turk, M.D., Restylane® provides immediate rejuvenation of the skin.

The Restylane® procedure usually takes less than a half hour, depending on the size of the area being treated. The gel is injected through a very fine needle, and because Restylane® is of a smooth consistency, patients experience little to no discomfort. Restylane® injections produce instant results, and patients are able to return to their regular activities immediately after the procedure. The effects of this wrinkle treatment can last from six months to a year, while Restylane® lip injections last about six months.

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, one of the newest hyaluronic acid-based fillers on the market, works to reduce and eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles and moisturize the skin. As with Restylane®, treatment with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel usually lasts less than a half hour, and patients experience very little to no discomfort because of the smooth consistency of the gel. Patients are able to enjoy smoother, healthier, and more youthful-looking skin almost immediately, results that can last for up to nine months.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® is an elegant filler from the makers of JUVÉDERM that is used primarily in the sub-malar and cheek area. Comprised of hyaluronic acid, it is safe, completely reversible and long lasting. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® takes just minutes to inject, rarely leads to any bruising and yields instantaneous results with minimal swelling or after effects. The area just below the orbital bone is known as the sub-malar triangle and exhibits a certain fullness in youth that often flattens or fades with age. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® can restore the fullness to this critical area of the face providing soft, natural looking rejuvenation of the cheek and lower eyelid complex. The malar eminence, or cheek bone, can similarly be augmented to provide a subtle lifted look to the face that typically offsets mild lower face fullness in the jowl area.

From the makers of JUVÉDERM® and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA®, JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® is specifically designed to softly and subtly fill the lips and last up to 9 months in this area. In the past, getting a product to last in the lips often required excess volumes to be injected resulting in “duck lips” or “fish lips” as they have been referred to. If a smaller amount of product was used, or a lighter product, it would work nicely but disappear after just a few weeks to a few months. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® combines the softness and lack of puffiness with a durability that makes this treatment more cost effective for the patient. It is also made from hyaluronic acid and is completely reversible.

KYBELLA® is a newly approved injectable solution that permanently dissolves fat under the chin. Many patients notice excess “padding” in this area due to hereditary factors, slight weight gain or early aging. Previously, the only solution to this problem was a surgical procedure called Sub Mental Liposuction. This involved anesthesia and a moderately invasive technique to suck out the unwanted fat. With KYBELLA® the patient receives a series of injections into the affected area with local anesthesia only and 20 minutes later walks out of the office. The post injection swelling can be significant and last up to 7-10 days. The procedure typically needs to be repeated  two to three times to achieve maximal contouring but this depends on the amount of fat to be reduced and the patient’s specific anatomy. KYBELLA® is extremely safe and can be used in patients with any skin type and the results are extremely long lasting.
