Qualifying for Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is often considered to be a good surgical option for patients who have tired-looking eyes, puffiness, and droopiness around the eyes. During a consultation with Dr. Jon Turk in New York, you will be able to discuss eyelid surgery in detail. Your plastic surgeon will consider many factors, including:
Your Overall Health
Patients considering blepharoplasty must be in good overall health to ensure a smoother procedure and recovery and to minimize the risk of complications.
Your Medical History
If you've had multiple eyelid surgeries, corrective vision surgery, uncontrolled glaucoma, or severe dry eyes, you may not be a good candidate for this surgery.
Your Expectations
Like all cosmetic procedures, blepharoplasty requires candidates to have realistic expectations. The procedure cannot completely reverse aging but can leave you with younger-looking eyes.
If Dr. Turk determines you're a good candidate for this procedure, you can schedule your blepharoplasty.

Testing Prior to Surgery
Before your eyelid surgery, you may have to undergo different tests, such as:
A Physical Examination
A physical examination that may include testing tear production and measuring your eyelids will be performed.
A Vision Examination
Your eye doctor may examine your eyes and test your vision, especially your peripheral field of vision.
Eyelid Photography
Your eyes will be photographed from different angles to help your plastic surgeon prepare for your surgery.

Recovering From Eyelid Surgery
Immediately Following Surgery
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, meaning most patients can go home after surgery. You will need someone to drive you home following your surgery and we recommend having someone spend the night. You will be given instructions to follow to aid in your recovery.
The Days Following Surgery
In the days after your blepharoplasty procedure, you may experience swelling, bruising, irritation, sensitivity, and some visual changes like blurred or double vision. Over-the-counter pain medication, ice, and artificial tears can alleviate discomfort during this time.
The Weeks After Surgery
You may require up to a week off of work so you can recover comfortably at home. As your swelling and bruising subside over the course of one to two weeks, you will notice the results of your procedure. Lifted upper eyelids will have an improved contour and reduced sagginess from lid to brow can improve your field of vision. Undereye bags will be less noticeable.
The Results of Eyelid Surgery
The results of blepharoplasty can last for several years or longer, depending on the type of surgery you received, your genetics, your skincare practices, and your overall wellness. You can also receive non-surgical treatments to help prolong your results.
