Get Perfect Lips Today By Jon Turk on August 15, 2012

Beautiful, full lips have been the look du jour for years but if you weren’t born with them, there two nonsurgical ways to enhance your natural lips to get them to the fullness you have always wanted.

Restylane®

Restylane® is a gel filler that moisturizes and fills out lips as well as facial wrinkles and folds. Used since 1966 and created in Sweden, this long-lasting clear, biodegradable gel with hyaluronic acid, works with your body’s own natural hyaluronic acid to add volume to your skin by filling in the spaces between your collagen and elastin fibers.

This quick procedure—usually lasting only half an hour—is done by injecting the gel through a very fine needle, providing immediate rejuvenation of the skin. Since the gel has a smooth consistency, most patients experience little to no discomfort. The effects of Restylane to plump up lips can last up to six months.

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and normally last less than14 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.

JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel

Healthy and young-looking skin contains an abundance of hyaluronic acid that is slowly diminished over time, sunlight, or other factors. The lack of hyaluronic acid causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds, and thin lips. Just like Restylane, JUVÉDERM™ Injectable Gel is a hyaluronic acid-based filler aimed to reduce and eliminate the appearance of lines and wrinkles and moisturize the skin.

The procedure usually lasts less than a half hour, and, like Restylane, patients experience very little to no discomfort because of the gel’s smooth consistency. Anesthetic is usually not necessary prior to injections as JUVÉDERM consists of lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) to improve patients’ comfort during the treatment.  After the procedure, the results of smoother, healthier, and more youthful-looking skin can last up to nine months.  To make an appointment with Dr. Turk to find out if either Restlyne or JUVÉDERM may be right for you, call 212-421-4845 in Manhattan or 516-921-8989 on Long Island.
