Selphyl Biofacial By Jon Turk on December 11, 2012

Manhattan Selphyl BiofacialThroughout his career, Manhattan facial plastic surgeon Jon B. Turk has remained at the forefront of his field by producing exceptional results using the latest, most advanced techniques and technologies. Dr. Turk has recently integrated Selphyl® treatment into his practice. Selphyl® has gained the attention of the media as “vampire therapy,” a name that does not do justice to what, in reality, is a true breakthrough in minimally invasive skin rejuvenation. Using the patient’s own blood supply, Selphyl® treatment produces outstanding long-term results with no risk of allergic reaction and minimal swelling or bruising.

At Dr. Turk’s plastic surgery practice in Manhattan, Selphyl® treatment is just one of several safe and effective injectable treatments he offers. Please read on to learn what makes Selphyl® treatment so unique and then contact our plastic surgery practice today to schedule your initial appointment with one of New York’s truly distinguished plastic surgeons.

What Is Selphyl®?

Like Restylane® and JUVÉDERM®, Selphyl® is an injectable filler. What sets Selphyl® apart from all other dermal fillers, however, is that it is derived from the patient’s own blood supply. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from the other cells. The resulting platelet rich plasma (PRP) is strategically injected into the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and improve circulation.

Selphyl® is particularly effective when used to treat the under-eye area and to stimulate collagen throughout the face.

Treatment of Tear Trough Deformity

Tear trough deformity is characterized by a deep fold between the eye and the nose, the hollow area directly beneath under-eye bags. These tear troughs often form as the result of aging, though some people develop them early in life. Selphyl® has thus far proven extremely effective in filling this hollow area and restoring the appearance of sunken, hollow eyes.

In treating tear trough deformity, optimal results are usually achieved after two or three Selphyl® injections. Selphyl® adds volume to the area, which helps to rejuvenate the eye area and give patients a healthier, more alert appearance.

Full Face Collagen Stimulation: The Biofacial

“Biofacial” is a term coined by Dr. Jon B. Turk to describe full face collagen stimulation through the infusion of Selphyl® via the Dermapen. The Dermapen is a revolutionary fractional skin micro-needling device. It allows Dr. Turk to have full control over the administration of Selphyl® while promoting a more even absorption of the filler. Dr. Turk uses the Dermapen to distribute Selphyl® throughout the face, promoting the growth of new collagen and leading to healthier, fuller, younger-looking skin.

At our practice in Manhattan, injectables of all types are available to rejuvenate the facial skin. Dr. Turk is a particular advocate of the Biofacial because it combines two of the most important and beneficial recent advances in skin therapy: Selphyl® and the Dermapen. The results are simply among the most impressive and natural looking possible.
