Biofacial Procedure with Dermapen and Platelet Rich Plasma By Jon Turk on April 11, 2013

Manhattan Biofacial and DermapenManhattan facial plastic surgeon Jon B. Turk is an innovator in the field of facial plastic surgery, having helped countless patients turn back the clock and take years - sometimes a decade or more - off of their appearance. The latest innovation by Dr. Turk is the Biofacial. The Biofacial (a term he coined that is already becoming commonplace in plastic surgery) is the most advanced way to promote the growth of new collagen in the face, through the infusion of Selphyl® via the Dermapen™. The result is a comprehensive rejuvenation of the facial skin, achieving a look that was previously available only through more invasive surgical procedures. While Dr. Turk offers a variety of injectable treatments to improve the health, appearance, and texture of the skin, he prefers Selphyl® over all else. Selphyl® uses the patient’s own blood supply to ensure excellent results with absolutely no risk of allergic reaction, and minimal swelling or bruising.

At Dr. Turk’s plastic surgery practice in Manhattan, Biofacial treatment takes skin rejuvenation to the next level. Do you want to look years younger without having to undergo invasive surgery? Do you want to look fresher, healthier, and more attractive through a safe, effective procedure that can be repeated as necessary? If so, the Biofacial may be the ideal treatment for you. To learn more about Selphyl®, the Dermapen™, or the Biofacial - or to schedule an initial consultation with one of New York’s premier plastic surgeons - please contact our Manhattan plastic surgery practice today.

What Is Selphyl®?

Selphyl® is one of the most recent and promising breakthroughs in injectable filler technology. Unlike Restylane®, Perlane®, JUVÉDERM®, and other popular fillers, Selphyl® is derived from the patient’s own blood supply. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and placed in a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from the other cells. This creates platelet rich plasma, or PRP.

Platelet rich plasma has been used in the treatment of injured tendons, ligaments, joints, and muscles for years. These injections have proven successful at accelerating the healing process in a safe manner. The activation of platelets is essential to the healing of wounds and injured soft tissues. When activated, platelets release proteins known as growth factors. These growth factors promote repair and regeneration of cells.

When injected into strategic areas of the facial skin, this platelet rich plasma stimulates the production of collagen, improves circulation, and stimulates healing of damaged areas. Selphyl® has proven particularly effective at improving the appearance of the areas under the eyes, especially among those with tear trough deformity (which gives the appearance of sunken, hollow eyes), as well as stimulating collagen production throughout the face.

The Biofacial with the Dermapen™

At Dr. Turk’s plastic surgery practice in Manhattan, Dermapen™ technology is used in a variety of applications, as it radically increases the absorption of topical skin products. When used to infuse Selphyl®, however, the power of the Dermapen™ reaches new heights. The results of Biofacial therapy, which combines the dermal infusion technology of the Dermapen™ with the unrivaled skin rejuvenation properties of Selphyl®, are simply the most impressive and natural looking in non-surgical skin therapy.
